The Verwood Tennis Academy

A new era in Tennis is coming to Verwood our Tennis Academy, providing affordable high quality tennis coaching and wide ranging playing opportunities for the local community. The Verwood Tennis Academy provides coaching for all levels and abilities through a number of programmes. We also provide playing opportunities and a chance to join with others who share an interest and enjoyment of the sport.

Tennis is a great way to get fit and meet new people. Through a regular timetable of lessons and expert instruction you can develop yours skills and put them into practice through informal games, competitions and tournaments. The Academy caters for all ages and abilities.

Our youth program builds on a the existing support for junior tennis, allowing as a young person increases in capability and age to constantly move up through ability courses to constantly maintain their development and progress.

You can join the Tennis Academy from £6 for juniors and £10 for adults – your membership will open up great opportunities to experience and enjoy the sport, these include:

• Access to training courses from LTA ( Lawn Tennis Association) approved coach
• A reduction in the cost of casual court hire
• Free courts when taking part in league matches once they have been established
• A reduction in the cost of booking courts
• Be able to book and play tennis for half price when enrolled on a course

Mini Hitters:

An indoor session for the youngest of tennis enthusiasts. This session is run indoors at Verwood Leisure Centre with a strong emphasis on co-ordination and an introduction
to ball skills. The emphasis for this group being on fun and learning..

Mini Tennis Red: A great introduction into the tennis world. Aimed at beginners between ages
5-7, they will be taught about the basics shots and rules with co-ordination and ball skills also a key part. The emphasis for this group being on fun and learning.

Mini Tennis Orange: Aimed at players between the ages of 7-9, very similar to the Red Group
with the main emphasis being on fun and learning, more variety with the racket will be encouraged with the basic skills being solidified.

Mini Tennis Green: Players moving up from beginner level aiming to start developing technique and tactics. More advanced shots will be encouraged with players learning how to play competitively as well. Ages range from 9-12 with enjoyment still a major part of development.

Teen Tennis: Development of performance the key objective for this group. Aimed at intermediate level players and will be looking to improve skills, technique, tactics and fitness. Competitive play will be a key part of this session with skills and tactics being enforced on court in game situations.

Adult Tennis: Development of performance is again the key objective. Aimed at intermediate level players and will be looking to improve skills, technique, tactics and fitness. There is one hour of coaching, and one hour of open tennis to work on skills.

All courses need to be paid in advance. Courses will run along with school term times, meaning they will be between 6-8 weeks long. (NB. Sessions will run in ALL weather.)
